A Mother's Love

Updated: Aug 5, 2018

My younger son was 16 earlier this month and even though he was in the middle of GCSE Prelims, my greatest desire was to make his day special in some way.

Every day, I am grateful for my two boys – over the 29 years 2 months and 13 days I have been a Mum, I’m pretty sure I have experienced every emotion possible!

The most overwhelming emotion is the unconditional love I feel for them.

Yes, over the years, I have felt frustration, annoyance, anger, sadness…and plenty of guilt! I have also been challenged, by them, to be the best I can be, to be their exemplar, their guide, their mentor, their shoulder to cry on, their testing ground for new emotions and experiences…

I am driven by my desire to enable them, empower them, encourage them…and protect them, to keep them safe by sharing the wisdom of age and experience with them, so they see the pitfalls before they fall in them!

Both my boys enter new chapters in their lives this year. Tom gets married in July and Daniel makes choices about A level exams that will impact on his future.

As they grow into their new lives, my role as Mum continues to evolve and change. The biggest honour (and challenge) is to let go, set them free into the world, knowing that I have done the best I can.

It has been and continues to be an absolute privilege to be Mum to my boys and every day I am grateful to have them in my life.

Happy Mother’s Day x
