Shiny Things...

I have a tendency, shall we say, to be very easily distracted by the next ‘shiny object’, whether it’s an idea, a random thought, a ‘to do’ list, a social media post…or even something to buy on that well known shopping website!

Apart from being very exhausting, it also means my mind has been sooo busy that I haven’t had any real ideas for blog topics…hence no blogs. What it really means is that I’ve had so many ideas floating around at any one time, I haven’t captured them in time!

To be fair, with taking on the NLP Conference in the last couple of weeks, there have been many, many additional shiny things to keep my mind occupied…no use, though, if I spend all my time having ideas and doing nothing with them!

So this week, I decided to do things differently…

  1. Write the ideas down – seriously, I think I could have shares in post it notes and notepads…perhaps just a stationers shop  full stop? At least if I capture something on a post it, I may be able to make sense of it later.

  2. Pause – taking time to SLOW DOWN, breathe and silence the mind for a moment or two gives thoughts time to distil…it also gives me a moment to evaluate them, which actually saves time in the long run.

  3. Focus – one topic at a time! There will always be shiny things to distract me, and they will never go away. So what if I stay focused on one topic, even just for an hour…and then reward myself with free time, yoga…or chocolate (in moderation, of course).

It seems to be working so far…
